The second-round matches of the L&T Mumbai Open (Mumbai, India, hard court, WTA 125) have concluded. Japan’s Mei Yamaguchi, ranked 285th in the world, defeated 161st-ranked Swiss player Simona Waltert 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 6-4 to secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
In the first set, both players broke each other’s serve once, leading to a tie-break. Yamaguchi claimed three mini-breaks and converted her second set point to take the lead. However, Waltert dominated the second set. Despite Yamaguchi breaking serve four times, she also lost her serve twice and ultimately dropped the set.
In the decisive final set, Yamaguchi gained the upper hand by breaking serve three times. Although she lost her serve twice, she maintained her advantage to win the set and the match in 2 hours and 32 minutes. With this victory, Yamaguchi advances to the quarterfinals, where she will face the winner of the match between world No. 353 Zhibek Dyas (Kazakhstan) and M. Rajeshwaran Revathi (India).
