Tennis Star Caroline Garcia Announces Retirement
French tennis star Caroline Garcia, one of the notable names in world tennis, has announced her decision to retire from professional tennis. The 31-year-old player shared the news on Friday morning via a post on the social media platform X.
Garcia stated that she has been competing at the highest level for over 15 years and said, “After dedicating every second of my life to tennis for more than 25 years, I feel that the time has come to turn a new page.”

The French player revealed that she still has a few tournaments ahead of her, but this year’s Roland Garros—her 14th consecutive appearance at the clay-court Grand Slam—will be her last. “To all the tennis family who will be there: Let’s meet one last time to dream and fight together,” she called.
Garcia won the French Open in women’s doubles twice (in 2016 and 2022), while her best singles performance at a Grand Slam came in 2017, when she reached the quarterfinals. She has not claimed a singles Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, or the US Open.

The 2022 WTA Finals champion, Garcia has won 11 WTA tournaments in total. Her career-high singles ranking was world No. 4, though she is currently ranked 145th.
In her statement, Garcia said, “My tennis journey has never been easy. Since the beginning, tennis has meant more to me than just winning or losing. It was love or hate, joy or anger. Still, I’m deeply grateful for this journey and everything tennis has given me.”
Although she has not revealed any specific plans for the future, Garcia expressed her intention to focus on personal goals. Her final Grand Slam run at Roland Garros will begin on Sunday with a first-round match against Bernarda Pera.
