Perfect Start: 16-Year-Old DTB Talent Celebrates Her First Tournament Victory
German tennis player Sonja Zhenikhova has claimed her first professional tournament title on her eleventh attempt. The 16-year-old rising star triumphed at the W15 event held in Antalya.
Zhenikhova secured convincing straight-set wins over Spain’s Ariadna Garcia-Patron Canals (6–3, 6–0), Czech player Linda Sevcikova (6–2, 6–3), and fellow DTB athlete Phillippa Preugschat (6–2, 6–1). In the semifinals, she delivered a hard-fought performance against Russia’s Diana Demidova, eventually winning 5–7, 6–3, 6–4. On Sunday, Zhenikhova reached the first final of her professional career and lifted the championship trophy.
Her breakthrough victory marks a promising step forward in what looks to be a bright future.
