Guram Tushishvili Triumphs in 47 Seconds, Set to Face Legendary Teddy Riner

At the Paris Olympic Games, Georgian judoka Guram Tushishvili showcased an impressive performance in the +100kg category, advancing to the quarterfinals. Entering the tournament in the second round, Tushishvili swiftly defeated Senegal’s Mbagnik Diaye in just 47 seconds. He is now set to face the legendary Teddy Riner in the quarterfinals.

Sofio Armenishvili (+78kg) also made a promising start by defeating Germany’s Rene Lucht in the first round. However, she fell short in the round of 16, losing to France’s Roman Dicot, and exited the tournament.

So far, Georgia has won three medals at the Paris Olympics. Judoka Lasha Bekauri brought home the first gold medal for Georgia by defeating Japan’s Sanshiro Murao in the final. Three-time world champion Tato Grigalashvili earned a silver medal, adding to the pride of the Georgian national team. Additionally, Ilia Sulamanidze, competing in the +100kg category, also secured a silver medal, further enhancing Georgia’s Olympic success.

At the Summer Olympic Games, 28 Georgian athletes are competing in 10 different sports, including trampoline, Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, boxing, athletics, shot put, fencing, swimming, weightlifting, and judo. Georgian athletes continue to represent their country with excellence in Paris.
