Yeldos Smetov Secures Historic Victory at Paris Olympics
Yeldos Smetov, the standout leader of Kazakhstan’s judo team, made history at the Paris Olympics by becoming Kazakhstan’s first Olympic champion in judo.
Competing in the 60 kg weight category, Smetov advanced to the final, where he faced off against French judoka Luka Mkheidze, the bronze medalist from Tokyo 2020. In a decisive showdown, Smetov triumphed, clinching the gold medal.
This victory adds to Smetov’s impressive collection, which includes a silver medal from Rio 2016 and a bronze from Tokyo 2020, making him one of the most decorated athletes in Kazakh judo history.
