Comment by Jakob Vestergaard
Jakob Vestergaard said: “Győr is a very good team, the best in the world. We knew we had to be smart both in attack and defence, as the opponent had excellent players in every position. We had a lot of problems in defense in the first half, we tried to make changes, but although we had good opportunities up front, Silje Solberg scored “Győri was better,” he said.
Summary
Fans of the Győr women’s handball team have been waiting for five years for their favorite team to lift the Champions League trophy again. Five-time gold medalist ETO has finished third twice (2021, 2023) and second once (2022) in the last four in Budapest since its last success in 2019. Therefore, this gold medal against Germany’s Bietigheim ended a long wait. The Hungarian team, which took part in the first final four in its history, achieved this great victory in the final played on Sunday evening.
