Alberto Bettiol Joins Astana Mid-Season
Italian cyclist Alberto Bettiol has officially joined Astana Qazaqstan Team as of today. The mid-season transfer, which was mutually agreed upon with EF Education-EasyPost, includes a contract covering the remainder of the current season and an additional three years (2025–2027).
Bettiol, 30, is renowned as a specialist in classic races. His career highlights include victories in the 2019 “Tour of Flanders” and the 2024 “Milano-Torino,” the oldest classic race in the world. He has also secured stage wins in the 2021 “Giro d’Italia” and the 2023 “Tour Down Under.” Additionally, Bettiol is the reigning Italian road race champion.
Expressing his excitement about joining his new team, Bettiol stated, “I’m thrilled to be a part of Astana Qazaqstan Team. I was impressed by the interest the team showed in me and by Aleksandr Vinokurov’s approach. This convinced me that making this move mid-season was the right decision. I’m grateful for my time with EF Education-EasyPost, as the years there have shaped me into the rider I am today. I can’t wait to meet the team and compete in my first race with them.”
Astana Qazaqstan Team’s general manager Aleksandr Vinokurov emphasized that Bettiol will be a significant asset, particularly in classic and one-day races. “Alberto is having a great season, and I’m confident he will continue to perform at a high level with Astana Qazaqstan Team. I’d like to thank EF Education-EasyPost for their open and constructive approach during the transfer discussions. Bettiol will be a strong addition to our lineup, helping us compete for top positions in classic races,” he said.
Bettiol is currently at a high-altitude training camp in Livigno, preparing for the second half of the season. He is expected to debut soon in the Astana Qazaqstan Team kit as the Italian champion.
