Qarabağ’s European Triumph: Records and UEFA Points Contribution
Azerbaijan’s representative, Qarabağ, secured a historic victory in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round by defeating Bulgaria’s Ludogorets 7-2 away from home. This remarkable result marks the club’s largest-ever win in European competitions. Previously, Qarabağ’s biggest victories were 5-0 wins against Georgia’s Samtredia and Gibraltar’s Lincoln, both recorded in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.
This triumph not only etched itself into Qarabağ’s history but also added 0.250 points to Azerbaijan’s UEFA country ranking. With this increase, Azerbaijan’s total points rose to 18.750, placing the country in 25th position. However, due to Sweden’s recent successes, Azerbaijan slipped one spot to 25th place. It’s worth noting that Sweden now occupies 24th place with the same points, while Cyprus follows closely in 26th place with 18.474 points.
Despite Azerbaijan’s slight drop in the UEFA rankings, Qarabağ’s monumental victory in Europe stands as a milestone in the club’s history. With this win, Qarabağ has advanced to the Champions League playoff round, where they will face Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb.
This victory not only highlights Qarabağ’s strength but also reinforces Azerbaijan’s growing influence in international football.
