German Tennis Star Tatjana Maria Scores Surprise Victory
37-year-old German tennis player Tatjana Maria delivered a stunning performance at the WTA tournament in London, pulling off a surprise win. In the Round of 16 of the Wimbledon warm-up event, Maria defeated former French Open finalist and sixth seed Karolina Muchova with a scoreline of 6-7 (3), 7-5, 6-1.
Having already eliminated Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the first round, Maria will now face either Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina (seeded No. 4) or Britain’s Heather Watson in the quarterfinals.
Maria showed remarkable resilience against Muchova, remaining composed even when her opponent was just two points away from clinching the second set. Capitalizing on her first opportunity to level the match, the German gained full control in the deciding set by securing two quick service breaks.
