Simon Petra Named IHF’s Best Young Handball Player of 2024
The International Handball Federation (IHF) has named Hungary’s rising star Simon Petra as the Best Young Handball Player of 2024. The 20-year-old talent had an outstanding year, winning the Hungarian Cup and the club championship with Ferencváros while also securing a bronze medal at the European Championship with the Hungarian national team.
Simon had previously received this prestigious award from the European Handball Federation (EHF). Additionally, she was named the Best Young Player at the Intercontinental Tournament in Debrecen, where she scored 16 goals, just as she did at the Paris Olympics, further proving her exceptional talent.
A Fan Favorite
In the IHF voting, Simon’s competitors were Léna Grandveau and Lylou Borg. However, the Ferencváros star received more fan votes than her two rivals combined, demonstrating her immense popularity. She also secured 82% of the votes from the coaches, making her the clear winner.
