Banyana Banyana Defeats Senegal in Friendly Match After First Half Goals
Banyana Banyana secured a 2-0 victory against Senegal in a friendly match held at Stade Lat Dior in Thies. Amogelang Motau and Noxolo Cesane were on target for the South African team.
After a disappointing 1-1 draw at home in the first match of the two-game series, Banyana coach Desiree Ellis made significant changes to her starting lineup.
Only five players from the squad that started on Saturday were retained: Kaylin Swart, Lebohang Ramalepe, Bambani Mbane, Motau, and Cesane.
The changes seemed to have a perfect impact as Ellis’s team took the lead in the 13th minute with Motau finding the net from a free kick.
The hosts threatened to equalize several times, but Swart was solid in Banyana’s goal.
Cesane then doubled the visitors’ lead before halftime with a neat finish.
Banyana should have scored a third after the break, but Nthabiseng Majiya’s effort went over the crossbar.
Senegal was reduced to 10 players with 20 minutes remaining in the match when Coumba received a red card for a foul on Swart.
Ellis’s charges completed the remainder of the contest without any issues to end the international break on a victorious note.
