Gajanová’s 1000 Meter Triumph: Slovakia’s Pride at the Diamond League!

Historic Run by Gabriela Gajanová: Slovak Record at the Diamond League!

Slovak athlete Gabriela Gajanová set a new Slovak record in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:36.42 at the Diamond League meeting in Chorzów, Poland. This performance not only marked a personal best for her but also earned her a seventh-place finish in the prestigious race.

The race was won by Kenyan Nelly Chepchirchir, who clocked 2:31.24, setting the world-leading time for the season and breaking the meeting record. Gajanová had previously held the Slovak national record with a time of 2:38.6, which she achieved last August at a bronze meeting in Bern. The 24-year-old Slovakian has now competed in seven Diamond League events, all of which were previously in the 800 meters.

Reflecting on the race, Gajanová noted that it didn’t go exactly as she had hoped: “The race was fast, but we expected that because there was talk of a world record attempt, which didn’t happen, but it still resulted in a nice meeting record. I tried to secure a good position from the start and kept contact as long as I could,” she said.

Despite not meeting her expectations, she expressed her satisfaction with setting both a personal and national record. She also shared her delight at competing once again with the world’s best athletes in the Diamond League, even in an unfamiliar discipline.
