Azerbaijan Women’s National Wrestling Team athlete Jalə Əliyeva shared her thoughts on recent preparations and her upcoming goals:
– How do you evaluate the training camp in Turkey with the participation of several countries?
The training sessions with the Turkish national team were organized at a very high level. Athletes from Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan also joined the camp. Unfortunately, I couldn’t complete the camp due to an injury. I will continue my treatment in Baku and aim to recover in a short time.
– You were also injured during the European Championship semi-final. Will that affect the upcoming tournaments?
Yes, I had a rib injury at the European Championship. However, I believe I have fully recovered. I don’t think it will have a serious impact when I return to the mat.
– Do you plan to participate in the last ranking tournament of the year in Hungary next month?
Yes, I’m planning to compete in that tournament.
– You competed in the World Championships for the first time in 2022 and placed fifth. Now that you’re more experienced, can we expect a medal this time?
The World Championships is a very tough competition. The best wrestlers in the world take part in it. Of course, every athlete goes there with the aim of winning a medal. I will do my best to be among the medalists.
– Who will be your main rivals at the World Championships? Are you preparing specifically for any of them?
As wrestling is developing rapidly in many countries, I believe all opponents should be taken seriously. It’s essential to approach the preparation process with great care.
– You won gold at the Islamic Solidarity Games three years ago. Can you defend your title at this year’s edition in Saudi Arabia?
I had prepared very well for that competition and believed I would win. There are still more than four months to go. To repeat that success, I need to be in even better shape and prepare at the highest level. If I continue this way, I believe I can bring home a second gold medal from the Islamic Solidarity Games.
