Skateboarding Talent Stoephasius Secures Olympic Ticket
Skateboarder Lilly Stoephasius has qualified for the Olympic Games for the second time. The 17-year-old from Berlin secured her spot in this year’s Summer Games in Paris by placing 17th in the Park discipline during the second stage of the Olympic Qualifier Series on Sunday in Budapest, Hungary.
Stoephasius shared her excitement on Instagram, posting a video where she joyfully circles with her international peers of equal caliber, captioning it, “Thank you girls, see you in Paris.”
The first stage of the Qualifier Series took place in mid-May in Shanghai, China. Both events equally contributed to the overall qualification ranking. Points from the Olympic skateboarding world ranking were also used, which ultimately accounted for about 80% of Stoephasius’s total points.
At the age of 14, Stoephasius participated in the gala of the Olympic skateboarding competitions in Tokyo 2021 and finished ninth. This year’s park competitions, just like the street discipline (scheduled for July 27 and 28), will be held on August 6 and 7 at the legendary Place de la Concorde in Paris.
