Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix Secures Place in Paris with British Championship Win
Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix secured her place at the Paris Olympics this summer by winning the women’s individual 10-meter platform final at the British Diving Championships. The 19-year-old athlete scored 363.7 points to take first place, while Lois Toulson finished second with 335.90 points, and Eden Cheng came third with 327.75 points.
“I’m very happy,” said Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix. “I just kept progressing in this competition. We’ll see what happens in Paris, but I really want to enjoy this.”
The competition held at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre was a crucial selection event for the Olympic diving disciplines of individual 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform, as well as for the European Championship diving team.
Each individual event offers two spots for Paris, provided a diver wins the event and meets the pre-determined score tally in both the preliminaries and the final, as Spendolini-Sirieix did.
Jack Laugher clinched victory in the men’s 3-meter springboard event at Sandwell, securing his selection for Paris by finishing first. Despite finishing fourth in the preliminaries, he won the final with a score of 507.20 points. Jordan Houlden took second place with 476.20 points, and Dan Goodfellow was third with 471.60 points.
Laugher said, “The first three dives were my easier ones, and I knew if I did them well, I would be in a good position for the last three. My fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds were a bit shaky, but I’m very happy with the result.”
Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix and Laugher were already part of Team Great Britain’s diving squad for the Olympics, having been selected from synchronized pairings.
