Lomakin is the Champion in Tunisia
Kazakhstani tennis player Grigoriy Lomakin achieved great success by winning the Monastir (Tunisia) ITF tournament in doubles. The number 1 seeds of the competition, G. Lomakin and his Russian partner İlia Simakin, reached the championship by playing four matches in total.
In the semi-finals, the Kazakh-Russian couple defeated American Jordan Chiu and Indian Rohan Mehra with sets of 6-0, 6-3. In the final, Lomakin and Simakin took the championship podium by beating the tournament’s number 4 seeds, Portuguese Pedro Araujo and Jose-Luis Marquez, with sets of 6-1 and 7-5.
Performances of Other Kazakh Athletes
Competing in the singles tournament held in Vicenza (Italy), another Kazakhstani tennis player, Dmytro Popko, ranked 244th, defeated Italian Francesco Passaro, ranked 134th in the world and the number 1 seed of the tournament, 3-6, 6, in a long-lasting competitive match. He could not advance to the semi-finals, losing with sets of -3 and 6-2. The match lasted more than 2 hours.
Additionally, Zhibek Kulambaeva, together with Russian Ekaterina Reingold, lost in the final of the Brescia (Italy) ITF W75 tournament to Spanish Ivon Cavalier-Reimers and Italian Aurora Zantedeschi with sets of 6-3, 5-7, 6-10. This match lasted 1 hour and 38 minutes.
