French cyclist Valentin Paret-Peintre achieved his first professional victory on the 10th stage of the Giro d’Italia.
The 23-year-old celebrated his victory with his older brother Aurelien, who won stage four of the Giro last year and was fifth at the finish line on Tuesday.
Slovenian Jan Tratnik (Visma-Lease a Bike) looked close to winning the stage after making a solo break with more than 30km to go.
However, on the last 18 km climb of Bocca della Selva, a late attack by Paret-Peintre of the Decathlon-AG2R La Mondiale team caught Tratnik with less than 3 km to go.
Tratnik settled for third place after Romain Bardet from DSM-Firmenich PostNL team came second.
Meanwhile, Tadej Pogacar maintained his lead in the general classification over Colombia’s Daniel Martinez and Great Britain’s Geraint Thomas.
Stage 11, run on Wednesday, was a 207-kilometer route from Foiano di Val Fortore to Francavilla al Mare on Italy’s east coast.
